Who is S.T.E.P.S?

S.T.E.P.S. stands for Suicide. Talking. Education. Prevention. Support. Our group was set up after a public consultation in 2012.

S.T.E.P.S. promote a preventative approach and endeavour to break down the wall of silence, stigma and fear around Suicide and Mental Health. From 2012 to 2019 there have been 17,388 people through our classes. In 2016 we set up S.T.E.P.S. Counselling with one counsellor, up to December 2019 we have 9 fully qualified counsellors and our service runs Monday to Friday. From December 2016 to December 2019 we have seen 282 people. 177 Females aged from 4-85 and 105 Males aged from 5-73 from 35 different towns. Currently we have 53 people on our waiting list and thanks to people fundraising we have been given additional counselling space by Workspace and once the new heating system is installed, we will be able to offer more help and get our waiting list moving quicker.

S.T.E.P.S. is run solely by volunteers so every penny raised and donated goes directly back into the community to support those in need. S.T.E.P.S. classes are mostly self-sustaining. However it is really hard to find funding for counselling so the majority of monies raised goes to sustaining this vital service and we can never thank the amazing communities in which we live as without that vital support we could never have grown and we could never have achieved all that we have. STEPS is run by the community for the community and YOU are saving lives. Thank you.
